This post is all about the DIY list of things to do when moving into a new house that I wish I had completed.

1. Seal the Grout
I learned this one the hard way! It was such a newbie move to not seal my grout, and I will never forget to do this moving forward.
Sealing your grout before using your showers is essential to keeping your grout clean. It’s also recommended to seal your kitchen backsplash grout to prevent food stains.
Why you should seal your grout:
- Keeps grout looking clean
- Keeps out mold and mildew
- It’s easy and inexpensive to do yourself!
I used this grout sealer from Amazon and liked it because it has a brush attached to the applicator!
2. Epoxy Garage Floor
I regret not doing this to our garage floor as soon as we moved in. Adding epoxy elevates the look of your garage!
Because we don’t have basements in the south, our garage houses a lot of our storage. As the years have gone by, more and more is accumulated in here and it’s almost impossible to remove it all to epoxy now.
3. Purchase Extra Tile and Wood Flooring
We’ve lived in our home for 3 years now and I highly regret not purchasing extra wood flooring and tiles. Wear and tear happens quicker than you think with kids, dogs, and life happening every day!
The reason I recommend you purchase these when you first move in or even beforehand is that companies will discontinue flooring after several years. There is a chance that if you need to replace a section of flooring your selection could no longer be available.
Buy a few extra boxes of each now – I promise you won’t regret it!
This post was my top 3 list of things to do when moving into a new house. These tasks are much harder to complete once you are already in and living in your home.
