Each new season has me thinking about how we can update our primary bedroom to reflect the time of year. I love swapping out decor and linens to embrace the season.
Below are my tried and true tips for making your current bedroom feel renewed and refreshed!
Easy Bedroom Refresh List
1. Paint your furniture
A super simple update is to refinish your already existing bedroom furniture! From painting to adding new hardware, these small changes can completely change the feel of your room.
I refinished our dark wooden nightstands into the light blue, coastal nightstands you see above! Check out my tricks for how to use latex paint to refinish your wood pieces.
2. Add or update wall coverings
Swapping out or adding drapes or curtains to your bedroom is a sure way to make an impact! Take a look at what is currently there – is it an outdated fabric? are the curtains discolored from light?
If so, it’s time to replace those curtains with something fresh and new!
3. Incorporate greenery
Adding fresh or faux greenery to bring a touch of nature into your room. Plants not only add visual interest but also help improve air quality and create a calming environment.
Put some of my favorite faux greenery from Amazon into vases or crocks and add to your bedside table!
4. Add a rug
Adding a rug under your bed is a great way to change the whole look of your bedroom! For a King-size bed, I recommend at least an 8×10 ft. rug to fill your space. You will want the front legs of the bed on the rug as well as your nightstands.
5. Swap out wall decor & art
Switch your wall art and decor with new prints and images to create a whole new feel in your bedroom. Pick a theme and go with it, or mix and match personal images with professional prints.
Investing in local artists or commissions is one of my favorite ways to create a unique look!
6. Update fixtures
Change out old light fixtures and hardware in your bedroom with new ones. This tip is an affordable way to refresh the feel of your bedroom.
Swap a fan for a chandelier, add wall sconces, or change out old shelving.
7. Declutter
Start by removing any unnecessary items and clutter from your bedroom. Create piles of items to go into: Donate, Trash, and Keep. Clearing out clutter can instantly make the space feel more open and peaceful.
8. Fresh linens
Nothing excites me more than buying fresh bedding! Invest in a new duvet, sheets, or a quilt to layer on your current bedding. The possibilities here are endless!
My duvet cover shown above is West Elm European Flax Linen in Silver Mist Melange. It’s the perfect weight for all seasons, and I love that it is a slightly lighter color for spring/summer seasons on one side. I’ve had this one for 4 years and it just gets softer with each wash!
9. Deep clean
Give your bedroom a thorough cleaning. Dust surfaces, vacuum or mop the floors, clean windows and mirrors, and wash bedding and curtains. A clean space can make a big difference in how refreshed your bedroom feels.
