This post is all about how to create a DIY grasscloth console table that looks just like a designer piece for a fraction of the price.
I had been eyeing the Serena and Lily Blake console table for ages but could not justify the price tag of $1800! I knew I could make something similar myself and once I found the right piece on Facebook Marketplace then it was such a fun and easy DIY. I was looking for a console table with straight lines and clean edges. After weeks of stalking FBMP, I found the console table below for just $50! You could definitely use an IKEA Lack console but the dimensions just weren’t right for me and we don’t have an IKEA locally.

Next was the wallpaper! I found a khaki-colored textured grasscloth wallpaper on Amazon for $80 (on sale at the time I am writing this). Because I wanted something with real texture, I had to go with real wallpaper vs. peel-and-stick. If you don’t care about the texture, peel-and-stick wallpaper would make this DIY even easier!
Supplies
- Grasscloth Wallpaper (this is the exact wallpaper I purchased from Amazon)
- Console Table – I found mine on my local Facebook Marketplace!
- Wallpaper Paste (this is my favorite brand)
- Super Glue
- Wallpaper Scraper
- Scissors
- Foam Brush
- Exacto Knife
- Tape Measure
How to Create a DIY Grasscloth Console Table
Step 1 – Measure wallpaper

Because I wanted a clean continuous look, I rolled out the grasscloth wallpaper to be long enough to wrap around the console. I measured and measured again to make sure it would cover the top and the legs. Cut to the required length.
You are basically going to wrap the grasscloth around the console table like you would a Christmas present!
Step 2 – Paste grasscloth wallpaper to the console table

Using your foam brush, paint on the wallpaper paste (I like ROMAN brand), then start wrapping the console. I used painter’s tape to hold the wallpaper in place, then smoothed it out using a wallpaper scraper.
Step 3 – Fold the Corners
Just like wrapping a present, fold the corners over. Then cut the wallpaper along the console so that it folds around the legs.

Step 4 – Wrap the legs of the console table with grasscloth
Apply wallpaper paste to the inside of the legs and continue wrapping the wallpaper around the leg. Use your scraper to flatten out the paper.

Step 5 – Wrap and fold the corners of the grasscloth wallpaper
The trickiest part was the corners because I wanted them to look clean and professional. I folded up the wallpaper and tucked in any pieces to make a 45-degree angle fold.

Step 6 – Cut off excess wallpaper and glue the seams
Cut off the extra wallpaper under the console at the crease lines. I used an Exacto Knife to get a straight cut. Then I went in with some super glue and sealed the creases. This helped pin down any wallpaper that was sticking up too.

Step 7 – Fold the wallpaper at the bottom of the console table
The last step was to fold down the wallpaper on the bottom and seal it with wallpaper paste and super glue.

Completed DIY Grasscloth Console Table

The BEST part is picking up your piece and putting it in its perfect place in your home. I put ours in our entryway and it’s such a statement piece. I get compliments on it all the time! I styled mine with some coffee table books, a lamp, and flowers.
