Have you ever wondered how to frame a builder-grade mirror in your bathroom? In this post, I will teach you the exact steps on how to frame a bathroom mirror without removing it.
Mirrors can be expensive and it seems like such a shame sometimes to waste those massive mirrors above the bathroom cabinet. I decided I wanted to update it but didn’t want the hassle of removing the mirror and getting rid of it. So instead, I brought the frame to the mirror! My mirror also has clips holding it to the wall (as many more recent builds do), so I will show how to frame a mirror with clips too.
Framed mirrors look more high-end than builder-grade mirrors. This is an affordable and easy DIY that can be done in an afternoon to update your bathroom!
How to Frame a Builder-Grade Mirror
Framing in a bathroom mirror is a lot easier than you might think! There are a few materials and tools that I recommend to get you started. This whole project cost me less than $50 to upgrade the bathroom mirror!
Materials & Tools
- Decorative molding or trim (I found mine at Home Depot)
- Liquid Nails
- Painters tape
- Miter Saw
- Oscillating Multi-tool
Cut Trim to Size of the Mirror

The first step to framing your bathroom mirror is to measure the perimeter of the mirror so you can cut the molding to size. After you have your measurements, cut the trim to length on a 45 degree with your miter saw. Make sure that you are cutting the correct angles! It always helps me to lay out the boards in their orientation so my angle is going in the correct direction.
Cut Out Notches for Mirror Clips

My mirror was attached to the wall using mirror clips shown in the image above. If your mirror doesn’t have mirror clips, you can skip this step. But if you do, then you must cut out notches in your trim to cover the mirror clips. Otherwise, it won’t be flush on your mirror.
To frame a mirror with clips, you’ll need your trim and multi tool. Measure where the clips will land on your trim pieces. I simply just held my trim up to the mirror and marked with a pencil where I needed to cut out.

Attach the Trim to the Mirror
Once your trim pieces are cut to size and have the notches for mirror clips cut out, you are already to install the frame!

Coat the back of each trim piece with Liquid Nails. Place the trim on the mirror edge so it is flush with the sides. Use painter’s tape to hold the trim piece in place while it dries. Let it dry for 24 hours before removing the tape.
You’re finished framing in your builder-grade mirror with clips!! This is a way higher end look than the framless mirror in my bathroom.
