This post is all about how to transform an IKEA Besta tv unit into a fluted midcentury modern console table. This is the easiest IKEA Besta hack!
This is the best IKEA BESTA hack out there (in my opinion!). I transformed this basic furniture piece I’ve had for years into a midcentury modern beauty of a console table for our loft family room. Why did I wait so long to flip this piece of furniture?!
The IKEA BESTA is a blank canvas; there are so many great hacks and ideas to flip this piece of furniture. I found a fluted console at West Elm (Quinn Media Console) that I loved and knew I could recreate! This was an inexpensive and quick DIY project that I’d recommend anyone give a try!
Materials
- Ikea Besta
- Oak Pole Wrap (x2)
- Furniture Legs (the exact legs I used from Amazon)
- Cabinet Hardware (the exact hardware I used from Amazon)
- Liquid Nails
Tools
- Miter Saw
- Drill

To start this furniture flip, I pulled all the stuff out of the console and flipped it on its back. Working with the piece on its back allowed me to attach material to the doors more easily without fully removing the doors.
Measure the BESTA Cabinet and Pole Wrap
It’s always first-measure! I was planning to cut the pole wrap in vertical strips so I first had to measure the Ikea Besta doors and pole wrap. The doors measured 25 1/4″ tall, which I marked on the back of the pole wrap for the next step to cut.

Cut the pole wrap to BESTA cabinet door-front sizes
As mentioned, the height of the IKEA BESTA doors was 25 1/4 inches tall. I cut the pole wrap vertically to size using a miter saw. It was really simple to make these cuts! I needed two 25 1/4″ boards for each door.
The width of each Ikea Besta door front was 23 5/8 inches. Because I cut the pole wrap into vertical strips, I was able to easily cut the width at the seam using a utility knife. I needed to only trim off 2 slats from one of the boards for each door.

Glue Pole Wrap onto IKEA BESTA Cabinet Door Fronts
Before gluing anything down, I wiped off the cabinet door fronts so they would be free of any debris. Then, I added Liquid Nails all over the cabinet door fronts and aligned the pieces of pole wrap to them. While it dried, I added some heavy books on top. I let it sit overnight before moving on to the next step.

Add Legs and Hardware
After letting the IKEA BESTA cabinet doors with glued-on pole wrap sit overnight, I was ready to add the final touches! This was so simple! The IKEA BESTA already has feet screwed into the bottom, so I just had to unscrew those and screw in some furniture legs I bought from Amazon.

Then I used my electric drill to screw in some brushed gold hardware into the doors. I centered the hardware to the middle of the doors for a midcentury modern look.
Decorate and show off your new IKEA BESTA Hack!
The absolute best part of any DIY project is to show it off! I styled my IKEA BESTA flip with some coffee table books and a plant. I love the way it turned out and how it looks so much more high-end! If you give this one a try, let me know in the comments.
