Want to learn how to make a Valentine’s Day gnome? This easy, affordable Valentine’s Day gnome craft is a sure way to sweeten up your Valentine’s Day decor. With most materials already available within your home, these handmade gnomes are fun for kids and adults.
Although I share the steps to make a gnome for your Valentine’s Day decor, you can also make handmade gnomes for other holidays. The possibilities are endless with what you can do with these cute little guys!
Steps to Make a Valentine’s Day Gnome Craft:
The materials list for what you need to make a gnome is fairly simple. Although you can have some fun with the decorations you put on their little hats!
Materials List:
- White sock
- Rice
- White faux fur (like these from Amazon)
- Large wooden beads (like these from Amazon)
- Decorations, stickers, etc.
- I personally like these felt hearts from Amazon
- Rubber band
- Hot Glue
Create the Base of the Gnome
To create the head of the gnome, you’ll need the rice, sock, and rubber band. I used an old crew-cut white sock so that there wouldn’t be too much excess at the top. Poor roughly 1 cup of rice into the sock and secure it with a rubber band. You may need more or less rice depending on how big or little you want your gnome head.
Add the Gnome Features
Cut out a triangle on your faux fur for the gnome’s beard. Run hot glue along the top of the triangle and secure it onto the sock base. Next, glue one large wooden bead in the center top of the fur for the gnome’s nose.
At this point, your gnome should start beginning to take shape! To create the gnome hat, grab a piece of felt and wrap it into a cone-like shape. Trim off any excess pieces where the felt overlaps. Secure the cone together using hot glue.
Decorate the Gnome
Here is the fun part where you can be creative! I love involving kids during this part because each kiddo can create their very own special Valentine’s Day Gnome. These would be a cute handmade Valentine’s Day gift!
Add your felt hearts or any other decorations to the gnome. I personally like just a few hearts on the hat but you could add as much detail as you like! Other ideas for decorations to use are ribbon, glitter, and pompoms.
And that’s it! These Valentine’s Day gnomes are a fun, simple holiday craft that would be fun for your own home decor or a gift for a friend.
